Junior League of Summit Receives Grant

From Hyde and Watson Foundation for Thrift Shop Renovation

The Junior League of Summit (JLS) recently received a $5,000 grant from The Hyde and Watson Foundation. The funds contributed to the Junior League of Summit Thrift Shop’s recent excavation, underpinning and expansion of the basement that created additional storage space for donations received by the Shop. The project lasted several months through the summer and fall of 2019. The Hyde and Watson Foundation also supported a major renovation of the Thrift Shop in 2015, and the JLS is extremely grateful for the continued support from the organization. The revenue generated by JLS Thrift Shop supports the JLS initiatives, grants and scholarships awarded to community organizations and individuals.

The basement expansion is officially complete and the Thrift Shop happily accepts donations on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each week.

The Hyde and Watson Foundation supports capital projects such as hard costs related to the construction or purchase of new facilities, building renovations and improvements, purchase of capital equipment and furnishings, and other one-time capital needs. The foundation supports organizations focused on education, social services, arts, health, religion, and humanities.
The Junior League of Summit Thrift Shop in Summit was established in 1934 and offers new and gently used clothing and shoes for men, women and children, toys, decorative items for the home, housewares, and furniture that is deeply discounted. It is the primary fundraiser for the Junior League of Summit and has provided the resources for the League’s many grants, projects, programs, and scholarships over the years. Since its inception, the Shop has raised over $3,000,000 to benefit Summit and surrounding communities.
