Kent Place Kicked Off The Holiday Season With Traditional Concerts For All Ages

This December, the Kent Place community celebrated the holiday season with beautiful music and holiday cheer.
On Thursday evening, December 15, the highly anticipated Upper School concert, The STAR, was held in the Field House. The STAR is a time-honored tradition at Kent Place and hundreds of parents, alumnae, faculty, staff and students gathered for the traditional event.
Kent Place singers and instrumentalists performed traditional holiday songs and melodies from around the world.

Instrumental performers included the Flute Ensemble of Anna Agathis ’17, Elise DiCesare ’18, Yeon Heo ’18, Jillian Sher ’19 and Marianna Ziegler ’18 during “Andante and Allegro Assai,” the Clarinet Quintet of Eleanor Alix ’19, Elynn Chang ’19, Catherine Gilhuley ’20, Annie Schiffer ’17 and Maya Vuchic ’20 during “Two Dances from ‘Comus’” the String Duo of Samantha Silverstein ’17 and Yasmin Yaman ’17 during “Fly Singing Bird” and “Vivace,” and the String Octet of Hana Charnley ’17, Phoebe Eccles ’20, Piper Eccles ’18, Sophia Fanelle ’19, Jessica Kim ’20, Grace Reddington ’19, Samantha Silverstein ’17 and Yasmin Yaman ’17 during “Sounds of the Season,” which was also arranged by Samantha Silverstein.
Vocal soloist performers included the duo of Chloe Colaluca ’17 and Ruth Laurence ’18 in “Let it Be/Lu Yehi,” the trio of Lucy Lynch ’18, Ajibabi Oloko ’17 and Katherine Vieser ’18 in “Ding, Dong! Merrily on High,” Jacqueline Pothier ’18 in “A Ceremony of Carols,” Lara Gajewski ’17 in “O Holy Night” and the trio of Lara Gajewski ’17, Carly Moskowitz ’17 and Annie Schiffer ’17 also in “O Holy Night.”

The evening ended with a performance of “Highland Cathedral” with Catherine Gilhuley ’20 as a soloist on the bagpipes. This piece was dedicated in honor of Head of School Sue Bosland.
The STAR was preceded by an alumnae reception hosted by the Kent Place Alumnae Association Board in the Mabie House. During the beginning of the third movement of the concert, alumnae in attendance were invited to come forward and join the Chorale and Orchestra in singing “O Holy Night.”
In early December, the Middle School held its annual Winter Concert in the Field House and on the last day before winter break the Primary School performed its Holiday Concert in the same venue. The students sang festive songs from a variety of cultures.
