Kent Place School Club Raises $1,000 For Organization Supporting Women’s Financial Independence

In honor of International Women’s Day coming up on March 8, the Kent Place Upper School club Girls Learning and Making a Difference (GLAM’D) held a fashion show fundraiser called “Say Yes to Success” on Friday, February 24. The event supported Dress for Success, a not-for-profit organization that has “empowered more than 900,000 women worldwide to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.”

Representatives and participants from Dress for Success were in attendance and spoke about the organization, and Kent Place students modeled business attire during the fashion show.

“In October for International Day of the Girl, GLAM'D discussed the need for change to better protect female rights,” said Kent Place senior and GLAM’D co-president Sima Parekh. “At this event, we started making that change. ‘Say Yes To Success’ was dedicated to women who might feel like their time to shine is over, but everyone deserves a future and everyone deserves a fight. The fashion show highlighted the beauty of successful women.”

“Sima and I were so excited and deeply moved to see so many members of our community come together to support such a phenomenal cause,” added Kent Place senior and GLAM’D co-president Julia Cozine. “We wanted to show our peers at Kent Place, a school that strives to create brave and brilliant girls who will be the leaders of tomorrow, the power and impact that individuals can have when they unite for one common goal.”

The event, in its second year, was very successful. The donations, including suits, clothes, jewelry, handbags and shoes quadrupled from last year’s event. They also raised $1,000 for Dress for Success.
