Large Brush Fire Evacuates Summit Homes, Suspends Train Service
The fire extended for about a 1/4 mile in the area by the railroad tracks, Edgewood Road and Springfield Avenue in Summit on Friday.

SUMMIT, NJ — A large brush fire was reported along the NJ Transit railroad tracks in the area of Park Avenue in Summit on Friday.
Summit Fire Department responded at 1:53 p.m. to find the fire extended for about a quarter mile in the area bordered by the railroad tracks, Edgewood Road and Springfield Avenue.
NJ Transit train service was suspended while crews worked to extinguish the fire and several homes on Edgewood Road were evacuated, Summit Fire Department reported.

The Summit Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Summit First Aid Squad and other Union County agencies who set up rehabilitation stations. The Summit and New Jersey Transit Police Departments were on scene as well to assist with diverting traffic and rail service.
The fire was declared under control at 2:55 p.m. No injuries were reported to first responders or residents and there was no damage to property.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
