To the Editor:
One reason for my great pride in Summit has always been the amazing talent, dedication and integrity of our elected officials and our appointed boards. Within recent memory, I have watched our Common Council come unglued. Previously I felt the Council was united in the best interests of ALL of the citizens of Summit; that appears to no longer be the case.
Councilman Getzendanner is a personally very likeable. He always greets me with enthusiasm and sparkle. Tom, this is not personal. I know you love our city as much as I do, so please spare us the drama that is to come if you retain your position and turn in your resignation now.

To the rest of Council, please return to the business at hand and govern Summit for the present and the future. Your job has always been difficult. These economic times make it immeasurably difficult. There is something about the scarcity of money that causes friction and competition rather than collaboration. So please, even if Councilman Getzendanner does not resign, ignore him and collaborate to make the best of the situation at hand so Summit retains its diverse culture, property values, first class school system and quality of life. There is more than enough to do to make this happen.
The talent, dedication, integrity and proliferation of Summit’s volunteers make us a unique community where citizens make a difference in the present and the future of our great city. So please volunteer – we as a whole can change the direction from unglued to collaborative.
