'Water Is Safe To Use' Following 2 Water, 1 Gas Line Breaks Friday
Breaking: A total of 2 water main and 1 gas line breaks are being reported Friday in the area of Morris and Lincoln avenues in Summit.

SUMMIT, NJ — "Water is safe to use," New Jersey American Water reported following two water main and one gas line breaks Friday morning in Summit.
A major water main break was reported around 9 a.m. in the area of 526 Morris Ave. near Lincoln Avenue in Summit.
While on scene, an odor of natural gas was detected and broken gas line identified by Summit Fire Department.

Water service to several area residences and businesses was shut down, and a number of nearby buildings were evacuated from the gas leak, the fire department reported.
By 11:45 a.m., water and gas leaks were secured and repairs initiated by responding utility companies.

A secondary water main break was reported around 12:30 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue. It forced the closure of roads in the area of Washington school.
All water and gas service is expected to be restored by later today.
The roadway is closed with detours in place. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternate route, Summit Police announced.
"Citizens are advised to run water to be sure it is clear before drinking. If water is a brown color do not drink when sediment is present," Summit City announced.
