Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service and Community

Summit Area YMCA hosts Day of Service events on Martin Luther King Jr Day. Includes coat drive, teen moderated panel and brown bag packing.

The Summit Area YMCA is proud to host several Day of Service events on Monday, January 16, 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. Day to commemorate the values Dr. King espoused through his examples of community service, social responsibility, and respect for others. As a community centered organization, the Summit Area YMCA strives to provide meaningful programs and services in which individuals may learn, grow, and thrive.

There will be a coat drive at the Summit Y from 2:30 pm-3:30 pm where the community is invited to donate gently used coats and where teens may help sort them for men, women and children in need for one community service hour. There will also be a moderated discussion led by teens from 3:30 pm-4:30 pm to hear and learn about what it’s like to grow up in an ever-changing and diverse world. To instill important values of helping others and giving, The Learning Circle YMCA will hold its annual service day of packing lunch bags for Bridges. Brown bag decorating and sandwich making for Bridges will occur from 10 am – 11 am. Registration will be at the door.

All of our programs are infused with the same core values that Dr. King espoused – honesty, caring, respect, and social responsibility, which build character, self-esteem, and community connectedness.
