Mayor Dickson Donates to Summit's 4th

The honorable Ellen Dickson, Mayor of Summit, NJ donated the final amount necessary for the Summit Department of Community Programs (DCP) to reach its $8000 front-desk Fourth of July fundraising goal for the year.  Over $80,000 are necessary to run the annual daytime and evening festivities for Summit's Fourth of July Celebration.  Funds are raised annually through generous donations from Corporate Sponsors as well as from residents like you.

Every year, as the Fourth of July draws near, Summit DCP staff members offer residents the chance to contribute to Summit's 4th during the registration process.  Those who have donated in person at the Summit DCP have grown accustomed to staff members ringing the "Fourth of July" bell while springing out of their chairs to yell "thank you!"  This excitement stems from the staff's awareness that every little bit counts in making the Fourth special for Summit residents.

Summit celebrated 67 years of tradition with the Fourth of July festivities which were held last Friday on Soldiers Memorial Field.  Despite weather-related cancellations for this year’s daytime festivities, Summit’s 67th Fourth of July Celebration was still just as festive as crowds gathered on Memorial Field in anticipation of the Grand Fireworks Display. Event-goers also enjoyed another memorable performance by the Cameos in Concert who were joined on stage throughout the night by newlywed couple, Cynthia and Tim McNamara. The Summit PAL Fishing Derby Committee helped to set off the Grand Display as they “pushed the plunger” and lit up Summit’s night sky.

Thank you to Investors Savings Bank, Celgene and Overlook Medical Center for helping to keep Summit’s Fourth bright. Contributions for Summit’s Fourth of July are still being accepted at this time. Donations are fully tax-deductible and can be made online 24/7 or over the phone by calling the Summit Department of Community Programs at 908-277-2932.
