Midnight Kitchen Fire Erupts In Summit

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit firefighters responded to a kitchen fire at a Prospect Hill home early Monday morning.

The call came in at 12:40 a.m. and firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen. The fire was declared under control at 1:04 a.m., Summit spokeswoman Amy Cairns said.

Fire damage to the kitchen and water damage to the basement was reported with no injuries to residents or responding firefighters.

The Summit Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Summit Police Department and the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad.

Mutual aid was provided at the scene by Millburn and New Providence fire departments. Station coverage was provided by recalled Summit firefighters with Springfield, Berkeley Heights and Mountainside fire departments.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Summit Fire Department Investigation Unit.
