St. John's Celebrates Music Sunday on June 5th

SUMMIT, NJ - On Sunday, June 5th, at the 10:30 AM service, the choirs and ensembles of St. John’s Lutheran Church, 587 Springfield Ave., Summit, will celebrate Music Sunday. Based on the theme of Psalm 100, “Serve the Lord with Gladness,” Music Sunday celebrates the year of service through music and lifts up and gives thanks for God’s gift of music. Martin Luther (1483–1546), the "Father of the Reformation" and founder of Lutheranism said, "Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.”

The music ministry at St. John’s includes the Adult Choir, Children’s Choir, Lutherringers, Recorder Ensemble, St. John’s Brass-Woodwind Ensemble, periodic string ensembles and one-week bell and singing choirs, plus many talented individual vocalists and instrumentalists who serve periodically. Participants include the young and the young at heart. Most of the choirs and ensembles will be providing musical leadership in worship through prelude music, introits, hymns, the Kyrie, the psalm, offering anthem, Communion music, choral benediction, and postlude on Music Sunday.

All are welcome to worship and the Music Sunday celebration. For more information about St. John’s music ministry, call 908 273-3846 x2512 or visit St. John’s website at: http://stjohnssummit.org/music/.
