New Assistant Principal Summit Bound

SUMMIT, NJ - Barring unforseen complications there will be a new assistant principal at Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School this fall as Laura Muller has been selected to join the Summit Public Schools.

According to officials, Superintendent June Chang will be recommending her to the Board of Education for approval at the July 11 meeting.

“I am most looking forward to working with students and families to create a positive school environment,” Muller said. “Dr. Gallo and Mr. Ciferni have excellent ideas for the future of the middle school and I am eager to be a part of bringing them to life.”

Muller has worked for the Township of Union Public Schools for 17 years as a Teacher of Music and Director of Bands/Orchestras. She researched and designed new curriculum for a diverse student population and led numerous professional development workshops throughout her career.

She has been an active member of committees including the Superintendent’s District-wide Planning committee that revised district policy and procedure, the Technology committee that implemented the 1:1 Chromebook initiative, and the Principal’s committee that worked to improve climate and culture.

Additionally, as National Honor Society Advisor, Muller supervised high school students as they performed projects in accordance with scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

Muller said she places a high value on cultivating relationships. Through her outreach work with students, she has strengthened the bridge between school and community. She is committed to providing experiences for students that have wide-ranging impact.

In her new role as Assistant Principal, she will work with the middle school staff to enhance the learning experiences of LCJSMS students and will John Ciferni, she will oversee student affairs and discipline.

Muller earned her BMus. from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, as well as her M.A. in Educational Leadership from the College of Saint Elizabeth. She is currently pursuing an Ed.D in Educational Leadership at the College of Saint Elizabeth.
