Overlook Medical Center Gets 'B' Grade On New Ranking
Overlook Medical Center received a Grade B rating. See how other hospitals in and around Union County ranked.

SUMMIT, NJ — Overlook Medical Center has received a Grade B rating for safety, according to The Leapfrog Group. The nonprofit organization ranks each hospital's safety every year using a letter grade from A through F.

Overlook Medical Center was the highest rated Union County hospital. Two other Union County hospitals including Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway, 865 Stone Street, Rahway (View the full Score) and Trinitas Regional Medical Center, 225 Williamson Street, Elizabeth (View the full Score) both received Grade C ratings.

Hunterdon Medical Center, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington (View the full Score) and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, 1 Robert Wood Johnson Place, New Brunswick (View the full Score) each received a Grade B rating.
The goal of the grades is to determine what a patient's risk of further injury or infection is if they visit a certain hospital.
According to the organization, more than 1,000 Americans die each day from preventable hospital errors. Hospitals given a B rating by Leapfrog had a 9 percent higher risk of avoidable death than A hospitals. That number jumps to 35 percent in C hospitals and 50 percent higher in D and F hospitals.
At the state level, New Jersey was ranked 15th in the nation. Maine was ranked No. 1. Hawaii, Oregon, Wisconsin and Idaho rounded out the top five.
The Leapfrong Group, founded by employers and healthcare providers, has been grading hospitals for more than a decade.
