Parking Changes, New Firehouse On Summit Council Agenda Wednesday

The Summit Common Council will vote on prohibiting parking on a section of Pine Grove Avenue, bonds for a new firehouse, and a bridge.

SUMMIT, NJ — The Summit Common Council, now meeting in person, will vote on a range of issues Wednesday. They range from issuing bonds for a new firehouse to prohibiting parking on one side of Pine Grove Avenue to awarding a bid to build a new pedestrian bridge.

The meeting will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Summit City Hall. Masks are required in the Council Chamber. Extra seating will be available in the lobby to allow for social distancing.

The council will no longer accept public comments virtually by Zoom, the city said. Members of the public may comment by email to cityclerk@cityofsummit.org. Comments must be received by noon on Wednesday.

Issues Up For Discussion At Wednesday's Council Meeting

  • The council will consider a resolution to award a bid for the Parkline Pedestrian Bridge Project. This project will install a pedestrian bridge over Morris Avenue and will build access stairs as well. The project is fully funded by the Parkline Foundation.
  • The council will hold a hearing and possible vote on an ordinance authorizing the issuance of bonds to fund the construction of a new fire headquarters.
  • The council will hold a hearing and possible vote on an ordinance to amend city code prohibiting parking on Pine Grove Avenue between Colony Drive and Manor Hill Road to improve safety because of limited sightlines.
  • The Capital Projects and Community Services Committee will introduce an ordinance to make changes to the organizational structure of the Department of Community Services. The public hearing on that ordinance will be held on Sept. 21.
  • The Capital Projects and Community Services Committee will introduce a resolution to award a bid for the West End Improvement Project, to incorporate language required by the New Jersey Department of Transportation before NJDOT funding can be released.   • The council will vote on resolutions to award bids for: the fall 2021 citywide tree planting project, and cleaning and video inspections of sections of the city’s sanitary sewer system to identify areas in need of repairs.
  • The mayor and council will recognize the actions of a Summit resident who has planted sunflowers throughout the downtown, as well as two relatively new police officers.

The Common Council meetings are broadcast live on the City of Summit YouTube Channel, and on HTTV Verizon channel 30 and Comcast channel 36 and 34.

The next meeting after that is Sept. 21 at 7:30.
