Pedestrian Stuck, Killed By Car In Union County

Two people remain at-large after they fled a fatal accident. Their car struck a Plainfield man and killed him Thursday night, police say.

PLAINFIELD, NJ — Two people remain at large following a fatal pedestrian accident in Plainfield Thursday night, authorities announce.

The victim has been identified as Antonio Marquez-Melgar, 37, of Plainfield.

A white Kia sedan with two people inside collided with a Lexus in the intersection of Madison Avenue and West Eighth Street in Plainfield around 7:30 p.m. The Kia reportedly was knocked into Marquez-Melgar, killing him, Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan announced.

The two occupants of the Kia then fled the area on foot and remain at large, police report.

Members of the Union County Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Scene Unit and Union County Police Department Fatal Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating.
