Purple Swans Enchanting Performances at Summit Senior Centers

In a heartwarming display of cultural celebration and community support, Purple Swans Corporation recently brought back its cherished tradition of performing for local senior centers.

On June 8, 2024, the Summit Senior Apartment in New Jersey buzzed with excitement as the Purple Swans team, known for its commitment to cultural outreach and community service, arrived with a rich array of performances, delicious treats, and heartfelt gifts. The event featured an assortment of dances representing various Chinese ethnic minorities, including the lively Mongolian dance, the graceful Dai dance, and the enchanting Yao dance, each telling a unique cultural story through vibrant movements and exquisite costumes.

The atmosphere was filled with laughter and applause as a comical matchmaker dance took the stage, followed by the operatic “Ode to the Pear Blossoms,” which showcased traditional Peking opera elements like water sleeves and embroidered shoes. The performances struck a chord with the senior audience, bridging cultural gaps with familiar melodies such as “Can you feel the love tonight” and the youthful energy of a modern “Barbie” dance.

Local artist Xiaoyan Huang provided a magical opening act and captivated the audience with a powerful rendition of “Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy.” Young musicians Caden Wu and Miles Wu made their flute duet debut, continuing their tradition of musical companionship with the seniors at this center.

In addition to the performances, Purple Swans brought artistic custom-made cakes styled in the organization’s theme color, gift bags filled with carefully selected snacks, and substantial raffle prize packages. Meticulous planning went into snack selections. Purple Swans’ member responsible for the task, who is also an educator, provided a survey to her university students about seniors’ favorite snacks and made her shopping list based off of the survey result.

The seniors expressed their appreciation through social media, praising the stunning costumes, engaging performances, and thoughtful gifts, highlighting the professionalism and dedication of the Purple Swans team.

“The performance on Saturday was absolutely beautiful. I'm glad more seniors were able to see and hear all the wonderful information on each dance. We are still talking about it today, what a talented group!” exclaimed one of the senior attendees, reflecting the general sentiment.
