Ranking Lists Summit Schools As Best In Union County

A new ranking of New Jersey's best school districts has been released and Summit takes the top spot for the count.y.

SUMMIT, NJ - Data compiler Niche has ranked New Jersey's best school districts for the 2019-2020 school year. The rankings were released Monday as part of the website's 2020 K-12 rankings.

The top-ranked school district in New Jersey is Princeton. Niche gave Princeton an A or an A+ in all categories except for diversity (B+), sports and food (B). This year, Summit sits at number four.

Summit received a letter grade in the following categories:

The site notes that Summit has 4,008 students in grades PK, K-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1. According to state test scores, 72 percent of students are at least proficient in math and 78 percent in reading.

The site also ranks Summit as number four out of 243 districts in the Best Districts for Athletes category and five out of 377 in the Safest School Districts in New Jersey Category.

To arrive at the rankings, Niche looked at data from the U.S. Department of Education as well as test scores, college data, and ratings collected from Niche users. (You can read more about the methodology on their website.)

West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District had one of the steepest drops from last year, falling from 3rd to 11th. You can read more about the schools from around the state in our NJ overview story.
