Registration Opens for the Summit Area YMCA Mother’s Day 5K

On May 14, the Summit Area YMCA will host the 16th Annual Mother’s Day 5K Run/Walk
at Memorial Field, in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey. As part of our mission to
promote healthy living and to inspire caring for those members of our community
who need help, the Summit Area YMCA works to provide programming and support to
individuals of all ages and abilities. All age groups are invited to
participate in this race where proceeds from the chip-timed, USATF-sanctioned
Grand Prix race benefit LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, a free, small group, 12-week
cancer survivor and recovery program. With LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA,
participants work on building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility
and endurance, and finding a welcoming community where they can connect in a
meaningful way. The program is offered at both the Berkeley Heights YMCA and
Summit YMCA branches.

The Mother’s Day 5K is a family-friendly event that will also include a magic show,
Zumba, Tot Trot, and music. Runners and walkers are welcome to participate in
the race as individuals or as teams.

This year’s raise is being held in memory of Dawne Hausman, beloved wife and mother,
active community member, volunteer, and children’s health advocate in Summit,
NJ. The Female Ages 6-9 award will be
given in honor of Dawne at the awards ceremony following the race. Guests,
friends, and family attending in memory of Dawne may gather at the Hausman
Family & Friends tent during the event.
