School Supplies Collection for Summit Children in Need at Bridges, August 1 - 26
Bridges Outreach and Christ Child Society are collecting school supplies for 600 Summit children; drop-off at Bridges August 1 - 26

The Christ Child Society of Summit and Bridges Outreach, Inc., are partnering to provide 600 Summit students eligible for free or reduced price lunches with a new backpack and school supplies. “We want every child to arrive at school with all the supplies they need, just like their peers, and with the knowledge that people care and want them to succeed,” said Lois Bhatt, Executive Director of Bridges. “This year, the number of eligible children is significantly higher, so we hope that people will be as generous as they can.” Last year 385 children received about $80 worth of supplies and a new backpack. Parents were able to use the resources that would have been directed to school supplies for food, rent, and other necessities.
A portion of the supplies have been purchased through grants from the Summit Luminary Fund, Central Presbyterian Church of Summit, and the Junior League of Summit. The following NEW items are still needed: 1”, 2” or 3” binders; subject dividers (8); 2-pocket folders; marble composition books; loose leaf paper (wide and college ruled); spiral notebooks (wide and college ruled); 8-pack of colored pencils or thin markers; 3x5 lined note cards; #2 pencils and erasers; blue, black & red pens; highlighters and glue sticks. Donations will be accepted from August 1 through 26 at Bridges Outreach, Inc., Oakes Center, 120 Morris Avenue (entrance on Russell Place), Summit, on Tuesdays, 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Fridays, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Christ Child Society is a non-profit association of volunteers dedicated to serving at-risk children in the area.
