St. John's Summit Concert Series Presents Its Third Season of Music

Summit-based series to feature world-renowned Zukerman Trio

The St. John's Summit Concert Series(SJSCS) announced the lineup of performances for the 2016-2017 season. The new season, the third for the concert series, will include four shows beginning in October 2016.

The upcoming season will continue SJSCS’ tradition of bringing award-winning musicians to a community-based venue, giving patrons an opportunity to experience the music in a way that would otherwise not be possible. The season’s performers include:

  • The Zukerman Trio – The Zukerman Trio features Pinchas Zukerman -- a virtuoso on the violin and viola and considered by many to be among the greatest in history – as well as cellist Amanda Forsyth and pianist Angela Cheng. Zukerman has been nominated for 21 GRAMMY Awards as a solo artist, winning twice, and is artistic director for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra's 2017 Winter Festival. Officially formed as a trio in 2013, the group has delighted sold-out crowds with its music in some of the great music halls around the world.
  • Wei Luo – At only 17 years old, pianist Wei Luo is already making the musical world take notice. With a pedigree similar to past SJSCS performer, Haochen Zhang, she has already won several international piano competitions for young pianists, performed with the Shanghai Philharmonic and studies at the Curtis School in Philadelphia. Luo comes to Summit on Saturday, November 5.
  • The West Point Glee Club - For more than one hundred years, the members of the West Point Glee Club have been performing around the world and representing the U.S. Army at official events. Their motto: “No fun without music, no music without fun!” They will perform in Summit on Sunday, February 12.
  • Emmet Cohen Trio – On Saturday, June 3, the SJSCS will welcome back local jazz piano phenom, Emmet Cohen, who wowed Summit in January during An Evening of Dinner and Jazz. This year, Emmet welcomes special guest jazz trumpeter and vocalist, Benny Benack III, for “A Swingin’ Affair: Sinatra through the Lens of Jazz.”

"With this third season, we are hitting our stride as a concert series,” noted Kenneth Bryson, SJSCS president. “We have paid attention to the feedback we’ve been receiving for the last two years and have come up with a lineup that delivers on all of the things that we know people have loved so far.”
