Summit Area YMCA Partners with No Kid Hungry 07901: Help Families this Summer by Donating Gift Cards

Donate gift cards for food and supplies to help support families participating in No Kid Hungry 07901!

This summer, the Summit Area YMCA partners with No Kid Hungry 07901 to help support children and families through the month of August—the only month not covered by school meals in Summit schools. According to the Unitarian Church in Summit (UCS), 15% of children in Summit schools rely on school meals. In cooperation with various local organizations, the UCS distributes groceries throughout the month of August to ensure families have enough food through the summer.

On Thursday, August 25, the Summit Area YMCA Togetherhood™ program will host a “Family Fun, Food & Fitness” event for families participating in No Kid Hungry 07901. The 2 hour event will provide a free dinner, dessert, and various healthy games and activities for families and their children to enjoy. The Summit Area YMCA is dedicated to providing communities with the support necessary to become happy, healthy, united, and strong. Gift card donations will be accepted at the Summit YMCA’s Member Services Desk for the event to purchase food and supplies.

Togetherhood™ provides Y members with a fun, convenient, socially responsible and rewarding channel to identify ways members can give back and support the community. The launch of the first Togetherhood™ project at the Summit Senior Housing complex was a success, with over 60 volunteers donating their time as they led 65 resident seniors in activities that included bingo, a magic show, pet therapy, health screenings, exercise, live music and dancing, and a healthy cooking demonstration.

“The Togetherhood program is a great way for Y members to become more socially responsibility by participating in the Y’s cause to strengthen our community. It’s a great way for families and people of all ages to help strengthen the community through personally rewarding projects. We had volunteers that ranged from 7 to 70 years old!” said Patty Facchinei, Volunteer Coordinator at the Summit YMCA, a branch of the Summit Area YMCA.
