Summit Area YMCA Steps Up Security with Raptor System

All adults over the age of 18, including volunteers, will be required to present a state or government issued ID to enter the Summit YMCA.

Beginning this summer, all adults over the age of 18, including volunteers, will be required to present a piece of state or government issued photo identification and get cleared by the Raptor system before being able to enter the Summit YMCA facility located at 67 Maple Street in Summit, New Jersey. Once cleared, the individual will no longer need to present their state or government issued photo ID on future visits. Parents and guardians who are dropping off children in YMCA programs will also be required to be scanned, and will also be provided an access card for the duration of their participating child’s program session.

In order to better serve our community, the Summit Area YMCA strives to provide the best service in both hospitality as well as safety. The safety of our members, especially our youth, is integral to the successful development of a strong and secure community.

The Summit Area YMCA is one of the area’s leading charitable organizations. Our cause is to strengthen the community by nurturing the potential of every child, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Founded in 1886, the Summit Area YMCA has a history steeped in working side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income and background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

Each year, we serve more than 10,000 individuals with our free and fee-based programs and services in an area spanning the communities of Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Millburn, Springfield, Short Hills, Summit, Gillette, and Stirling. To ensure that all members and community members can interact within a safe and secure space, the Summit Area YMCA has teamed with Raptor Tech, whose instant screening program allows Summit Area YMCA staff to better protect members and guests from unwanted visitors, namely sexual offenders. If a potential threat is identified, the Raptor system sends instant alerts to designated management staff via email and text. Law enforcement would then be notified if necessary. Over 15,000 school and community facilities throughout the United States are protected by Raptor, a program with a comprehensive database with over a decade of accumulating data that updates on a weekly basis.
