Summit Cancels July 4 Fireworks; Will Work On Alternative
The city will work on a "scaled-down Fourth of July event that meets social distancing requirements and restrictions on crowd size."
SUMMIT, NJ – The city of Summit announced Thursday that it has canceled its annual Fourth of July Celebration at Soldiers Memorial Field due to restrictions issued by the state of New Jersey to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The day-long celebration included entertainment, rides and amusements, as well as an evening concert and fireworks.

The city said that the Department of Community Programs is working with city officials to create a scaled-down Fourth of July event that meets social distancing requirements and restrictions on crowd size. The plans will be shared once additional guidance is provided by the State of New Jersey.

All city offices including the Municipal Transfer Station will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of the July 4 holiday. The Transfer Station will be open on Saturday, July 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. No commercial use, temporary passes or U-hauls will be permitted. Face coverings are required and social distancing guidelines are in effect.
Residents are encouraged to continue to recycle cardboard and other materials curbside on Thursdays instead of dropping off at the Municipal Transfer Station. For more information on the Summit Municipal Transfer Station, visit the city website.

There are currently no fees required for on-street parking in Summit, or in municipal lots and garages.
