SUMMIT, NJ — The Summit Common Council will likely choose someone on Wednesday night to temporarily fill one of the 2nd Ward council seats until the next election, as 2nd Ward Councilman Steven Bowman announced Feb. 2 that he would resign.

Bowman and his family are moving out of state, said Council President Marjorie Fox in a rundown of the upcoming Wednesday council meeting.

The meeting will take place virtually at 7:30 p.m.

"The first order of business will be to fill the vacancy to the Ward 2 Council seat created by Councilmember Steve Bowman’s resignation," Fox wrote. "Following the procedure for filling a vacancy, the Republican party has provided a list of three candidates from which the Council must select the new councilmember to serve in this position until the General Election in November. Immediately after Council votes to appoint a replacement to fill the Ward 2 seat, the newly appointed councilmember will be sworn in."

Fox noted several other important items for Wednesday:
