Summit Garden Club Special Exhibit
Historical, informative exhibit about the Summit Garden Club on display at the Summit Free Public Library

For the finale of its Centennial Year, 1916 - 2016, the Summit Garden Club has prepared a special exhibit for the month of January in the two showcases at the Summit Free Public Library.. Cheryl Bartlett, Vivien Hardy, Ellen Hochberger, Marite Robinson and Sally Solmssen assembled the historic information; Annette Beshar helped with the lettering. One case shows the history of the club while the other highlights some of the many organizations the club has helped throughout its 100 years. Included in the exhibit are the original minutes from April 6, 1916, the very first Summit Garden Club meeting, held in founder, Mrs. Carroll P. Bassett's home, now the Beacon Hill Club in Summit. Mary Jewett, Carolyn McKibbin and Claudia Bell are preparing live arrangements to sit on top of the cases. Be sure to visit the library and check out the display this month.
The Summit Garden Club meets 8 times a year from September to June with the mission to stimulate knowledge and love of gardening among its members and the community. It promotes an active interest in all branches of horticulture, in the conservation of native plants, wildlife and photography. Members learn through lectures and hands-on civic projects such as maintaining the herb garden at the Reeves-Reed Arboretum, making tiny tray arrangements for SAGE's Meals on Wheels and enhancing landscapes at schools, parks and city buildings."
