SUMMIT, NJ — At Summit High School, the show must go on. The Summit High School Performing Arts program will present what they've called "the perfect family entertainment" — NEWSIES, The Broadway Musical — for five performances June 2 through 6 in the Performing Arts Garden at Summit High School.

Since ticket sales will be limited in the Performing Arts Garden due to covid protocol, livestream tickets will also be available for the performances.

“The Tony Award-winning Broadway phenomenon leaps off the stage with soul stirring music, amazing heart, and stunning choreography," noted a release. "Inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, when Kid Blink led a band of orphan and runaway newsboys and girls on a two-week long protest against Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers."

Summit High School Drama Director Anne Poyner said, "The way these young people stand up and say, ‘Listen To Me!’ is happening right now, all across the globe. Its relevance and inspirational power are pertinent in today’s world. Newsies is not only exhilarating and triumphant Broadway musical entertainment, it shares a powerful message of friendship and standing together in solidarity to fight for what is right.”

Newsies visits the age-old themes of social injustice, exploitative labor practices, and David-versus-Goliath struggles.
