Summit High School's Musical Anything Goes is "Electrifying"

Summit High School students brought the glitz and glamor of the 1930s to the stage with their dazzling production of Cole Porter’s beloved musical Anything Goes this Wednesday and Thursday nights.

“Wow, wow, wow! An absolute must-see for everyone!” said Council President Lisa Allen after last night's performance. “The talent and passion of our SHS students is not just remarkable but electrifying.”

Anything Goes, with its cast of zany characters, high-energy dance numbers, toe-tapping tunes, and elaborate two-story set, was the achievement of over 140 Summit High School students. The talents of the cast, crew, and pit orchestra combined to create a joyous musical extravaganza that captured the era’s spirit and charm and had the audience laughing out loud and jumping to its feet during the final bows. Summit’s latest musical continues its performing arts program’s long tradition of excellence. Since 2005, Summit’s performances have been nominated in nearly every category, including 16 nominations for Outstanding Overall Musical, for the Papermill Playhouse’s Rising Star Awards, which recognizes Excellence in New Jersey’s High School Musical Theater. SHS’s previous musical, SOMETHING ROTTEN, was nominated for a total of 11 Rising Star Awards, including Outstanding Overall Musical, and won for Best Supporting Actor, Best Ensemble Group and the Costume Crew for Student Achievement. Director Anne Poyner has not only won a Rising Star Award in Outstanding Direction, but also University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator award.

After the show, Lisa Allen rushed home to buy tickets for her son and their friends because she “couldn't bear the thought of them missing out.”
