Summit Led County In Vaccinations Ages 12 To 17 Through July
Though COVID-19 cases rose in Summit in July, with 34 confirmed cases during the month compared to 16 cases in June.

SUMMIT, NJ —The New Jersey Department of Health reported Thursday that Summit had the highest COVID-19 vaccination rates among 12 to 17 year olds in Union County through the month of July.
According to the department of health, 76 percent of individuals ages 12 to 17 in Summit had been vaccinated as the month drew to a close.
Summit also reported that, according to data the New Jersey Department of Health, there was a 100-percent vaccination rate among 18 to 29 year olds in Summit, a 94-percent vaccination rate among 30 to 49 year olds, a 100-percent vaccination rate among 50 to 64 year olds and an 89-percent vaccination rate among adults 80 and older.

Meanwhile, according to the Westfield Regional Health Department, there were 34 positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Summit in July, after 16 cases were reported in June.
The regional health department reported one 41-year-old, who was unvaccinated, was hospitalized. Thirteen of the cases in July were residents who identified as fully vaccinated, and all were asymptomatic or reported mild symptoms.

The age-group experiencing the most cases in July was the under 18 and younger group, with nine cases. There were seven cases among the 45 to 49 age group. The age breakdown of the July cases is as follows:
- Ages 18 and younger - Nine cases
- Ages 19 to 24 - Four cases
- Ages 25 to 29- Five cases
- Ages 30 to 34 - One case
- Ages 35 to 39 - Two cases
- Ages 40 to 44 - Seven cases
- Ages 45 to 49 - Three cases
- Ages 50 to 54 - Two cases
- Ages 55 to 59 - One case
Last Thursday, Union County reported an average of 55 new COVID-19 cases per day for the previous week, which was up from 12 cases per day four weeks earlier.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has classified Union County as a county with substantial transmission and recommended that all individuals wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, The New Jersey Department of Health reported an average of 1,104 cases and five daily fatalities per day for the previous week. Four weeks earlier, the state had an average of 218 confirmed cases and seven fatalities per day.
According to statistics reported last week, New Jersey was No. 38 on the list of highest confirmed cases per capita for the previous week. The state had been No. 31 on the list of high highest confirmed cases four weeks earlier.
As of Monday, 5,356,361 people in New Jersey had been fully vaccinated, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.
