Summit Man Arrested On Drug Charges In Basking Ridge

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A Summit man was among five people to be arrested on drug charges in Basking Ridge.

On July 28, a 19-year-old of Summit was stopped on Martinsville Road for a headlight violation by Officer John Mulhall.

After a brief investigation, the teen was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, police reported.

On July 23: Raul Salazar, 54, of Bound Brook was arrested for theft at the YMCA. Salazar was employed at the facility when staff was alerted by members of recent thefts that had occurred inside the locker rooms. At 4:30 p.m. on July 23, a YMCA member set up a camera inside his locker which showed Salazar take $19 in cash. He was charged with the theft.

On July 25: During the overnight hours, two motor vehicles were stolen from Emerald Valley Lane. A 2017 Porsche Panarama and a 2017 Bentley Bentayga were taken from the driveway of a residence. The investigation later revealed that both vehicles’ key fobs were inside when the theft occurred.

On July 27: Austin Mattern, 18, Devante Walker, 23, and Ken Axe, 18, and a juvenile all of Caldwell were stopped by Officer Zolnierowski for a motor vehicle violation. A further investigation uncovered under 50 grams of marijuana. The adults were arrested and charged for drug possession and the juvenile will be referred to family court.

On July 28 at approximately 10:24 p.m.: County communications received a complaint of an erratic driver in a white Mercedes Benz. The driver was located on Mt. Airy Road by Officer Frank Girard. Paul Bontempo, 67, of Morristown was arrested for DWI after a breath test showed his blood alcohol concentration of .23 percent almost three times the legal limit of .08 percent. He was also charged with reckless driving.

On July 29: Anthony Marinelli, 26, of Bridgewater was driving inside the Exxon on King George Road when Officer Anthony England determined that he had a suspended driver’s license following a random license plate lookup. After the stop, drug paraphernalia was found in plain view of the officer and a search of the vehicle revealed several doses of heroin and Alprazolam. He was charged with third-degree possession of a controlled substance and released.
