SUMMIT, NJ — A year ago, after Summit Lisa Stockman-Mauriello, 52, started showing symptoms of a terminal illness, friends rallied around the mother of three to get her experimental treatment for ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Now, doctors can apply to get tofersen, a new treatment, for their patients. According to WPIX, Stockman-Mauriello got her first dose this week.

"Lisa Mauriello’s eyes sparkled as she received her first dose of an experimental drug called Toferson" even though she can no longer speak, WPIX reported Friday. Read more of that story here.
