Summit Police: Forgery, Simple Assault Highlight August Activity

Business reportedly had $20 stolen from the tip jar by a man.

SUMMIT, NJ - As the summer wound down the Summit Police Department showed no signs of slowing as August brought with it a series of arrests. On Aug. 21 Natalia Osobliuk, 34, of East Brunswick was arrested and charged with exhibiting false documents, forgery and receiving stolen property. Osobliuk was processed and released with a pending court date.

  • Nadi Mazari, 31, of Wayne was arrested and charged with hindering prosecution on Aug. 22. Mazari was processed and released with a pending court date.
  • Aug. 25 saw Romar J. Smith, 23, of Jersey City arrested on a contempt of court warrant out of West New York. Smith was processed and released with a pending court date.
  • Lucien H. Gutierrez, 38, of Greensboro, North Carolina was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, specifically a firearm on Aug. 27. Gutierrez was processed and subsequently transported to the Union County Jail where custody was turned over to their officers.
  • On Aug. 27 a report was taken for a theft of cash from a tip jar a business on Beauvoir Avenue. The victim reported a tall, slender, bald, black male wearing a black sweatshirt and red basketball shorts entered the food establishment located within the business. The victim relayed that the individual engaged in conversation, while leaning over a counter and removing approximately $15-$20.00 in cash from a tip jar. The individual then proceeded to exit the main entrance of the establishment where the victim lost sight of the suspect.
  • A report was taken for a theft of a bicycle from a Union Place bicycle rack on Aug. 27. The victim reported the bicycle had been secured to the rack with a numbered pad lock. When the victim returned, the bicycle and lock were no longer there. The stolen item was described as a girls, Giant Bliss, 21-speed, charcoal, purple and neon yellow/green bicycle valued at approximately $400.00.
  • Andrew Bae, 24, of Cliffside Park was arrested and charged with simple assault on Aug. 29. Bae was processed and provided with a pending court date.
  • Aug. 29 saw a report was taken for a theft of jewelry from a Springfield Avenue business. The victim reported a heavy set Hispanic male wearing a long sleeve blue shirt, jeans and black sneakers entered the business. The suspect engaged the sales associate and removed a white gold, .85 karat, cushion cut, diamond ring, placing it into his pants pocket. The suspect then exited the business. The victim valued the ring at approximately $2,000.
  • Paulo D. Umana-Elizondo, 21, of Springfield was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and use of paraphernalia on Aug. 30. Umana-Elizondo was processed and released with a pending court date.
  • Travis A. Benjamin, 29, of Summit was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and use of paraphernalia on Aug. 31. Benjamin was processed and released with a pending court date.
  • Aug. 31 saw a report was taken for a burglary to a Woodland Avenue residence. The victim reported his room had been left unlocked and an unknown individual went in and removed approximately $140 cash from a dresser drawer.
