Summit Police Host Unity Tour Fundraiser

SUMMIT, NJ — The Summit Police Department is hosting a fundraiser to help officers riding bicycles in the annual Police Unity Tour to honor all law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty, including Summit's Det. Matthew Tarentino.

The fundraiser will be held on Thursday, March 1 at The Hat Tavern, 570 Springfield Ave., in Summit and is $30 per person which includes appetizers. There will also be $5 drink specials, food and T-shirts for sale.

A portion of the sales will be donated to the Summit Team's fundraising efforts. Cash or a chaneck made out to Summit PBA #55 will be accepted.

The officers will ride from New Jersey to Washington D.C. in May where the new names added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall will be unveiled — including Tarentino.

Tarentino, 29, was killed in a fatal three-car accident on Interstate 78 East in Bernards Township on May 30, 2017. Tarentino was married to Victoria and had two sons, Robert, 3, and Raymond, 2, with a third child due in August at the time.
