What's better than reading books? Reading books to pups from The Seeing Eye!
New at Franklin Elementary this year, children have the opportunity to read to a dog each week. The children get to practice reading aloud which helps their fluency and the dogs get exposure to it all. It is a win-win!Ms. Stochaj, School Librarian, has been a volunteer with The Seeing Eye, the oldest guide dog school in the United States, for over 30 years. Currently she is raising Harry, a black lab, to be a guide dog. Each week she invites puppy raisers from her club and other friends with therapy dogs to come listen to the children read. It is a huge hit! Ms. Stochaj also works with the Summit Free Public Library with their monthly program, Books and Woofs.
