Summit's National Night Out
Summit's National Night Out Against Crime will take place next Tuesday, August 5th at 6 PM on Summit's Village Green, 356 Broad Street.
The Summit Police Department, along with Summit Community Programs, will be hosting the Annual National Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014 on Summit’s Village Green. Join some of Summit’s finest organizations for a complete evening of education, entertainment and community. Opening Ceremonies are set to begin at 6 PM.
National Night Out (NNO) was introduced in 1984 in an effort to promote crime prevention activities and bring neighborhoods together. Over 2.5 million Americans took part in the first-ever NNO across 400 communities in 23 states. Currently, NNO involves over 37.8 million people and over 16,000 communities from all fifty states.
Within the City of Summit, NNO has grown exponentially in size within the past five years alone. What once started as a small-scale event in the parking lot of City Hall has now taken over Summit’s Village Green. The 2013 NNO was recognized as one of the largest in the state of New Jersey, with Governor Chris Christie flying over to recognize the city and their efforts in supporting the NNO mission.
This year’s NNO will feature several demonstrations including a Dog Show by the Union County K-9 Unit, a Summit Area YMCA Fitness Demonstration, and the popular Chris Clark Extreme Bike Stunt Show, to name just a few. Event-goers can also look forward to plenty of entertainment, food vendors, displays by some of Summit’s bravest, plenty of sports & games, and the annual dunk tank contest.
NNO 2014 is sponsored by Summit Community Programs, Overlook Medical Center, Summit’s Volunteer First Aid Squad, the Summit Police Athletic League, Summit’s Fire Department, Soul Cycle, Summit Community Services, Shaping Summit Together, the Hat Tavern and the Grand Summit Hotel.
