Take Five With Summit Council Candidate Louis DeSocio
Patch asked folks seeking public office five questions, and here are the unedited answers.

SUMMIT, NJ - Patch asked Summit Council Candidate Louis DeSocio to take five with us and share some thoughts on the city, the campaign and beyond. His answers are below, with minor courtesy edits for style.
Why are you running for office?
I have been a tireless volunteer for those in need and was inspired to run for Summit’s Common Council as a way to grow my contributions across our community.
What is the biggest challenge you see facing your community and how will you address it?
Summit’s tradition of excellence is under threat and demands leadership on Common Council that:

- delivers responsible fiscal planning and stable property taxes
- supports law enforcement and first responders for a safe community
- preserves the quality of life and character of Summit
If elected to Summit’s Common Council, I will seek to address these challenges by leveraging my unique skills and experiences as a:
- local businessman
- leader in the community
- tireless volunteer for those in need
What makes you the right person to vote for as opposed to the other candidate(s)?
After living in Summit for 37 years and spending most of those working right in our downtown, I am an experienced leader who understands what makes the heart of our city tick. If elected I would work to bring friends and neighbors from across our city together to make it even better. This is a key example of what sets my candidacy apart.

What will you do to facilitate communication with the community?
If elected to Common Council, I will facilitate communication among my neighbors in Summit by being accessible and always listening first. These are sure signs of effective leadership and will be my guiding principles if elected to Common Council.
What inspires you?
The warmth and generosity of my neighbors here in Summit inspires me everyday. I would not have dedicated so many hours on the campaign trail or be prepared to give even more on Council if it wasn't committed to continue giving my all for Summit.
