The Writers Circle introduces a brand-new series of virtual workshops to keep kids, teens and adults writing creatively through the COVID-19 social isolation.
The Writers Circle has been teaching creative writing in New Jersey since 2010. “With locations in five communities and students of all ages, we simply couldn’t halt all the great writing that’s been developing in our in-person classes,” says The Writers Circle Founder/Director Judith Lindbergh. “We moved to Zoom video-conferencing with our regular workshops on March 14. Then we decided we had to do more to help people write their way through this truly surreal moment in time.”
The Writers Circle’s virtual workshops include inter-generational options like “Journaling in a Time of Crisis” with New York Times journalist and author Debra Galant, “Get Cozy with Your Character” with The Writers Circle Co-Director Michelle Cameron, “SUBMIT! Literary Publication Crash Course” with writer Doris Cheng, among others. There are also hour-long virtual classes just for kids, including “Create Your Own Superhero,” “Magical Objects,” and “The Invention that Changes Everything,” each taught by The Writers Circle’s experienced and wildly creative children’s instructors.

All of The Writers Circle’s instructors are published authors hand-picked for their ability to encourage and support students at every age and stage of the writing process.
“We want this time to be as fun and productive for our community as possible. Writing is always creative and, at this crazy moment, it can be therapeutic, too,” says Lindbergh. “Even if you’ve never written a thing, we welcome you to join us and feel a little less isolated.”

Tuition for virtual workshops ranges from $20-30 per workshop with a 10% discount for multiple registrations or events.
Virtual workshops are scheduled through June 30 with more online offerings and special events to come for as long as the crisis continues.
“Our goal has always been to bring each writer to his or her own best level. In this moment of extreme stress, that ‘best level’ is also a place where we can express ourselves in a safe, loving environment with people willing to listen and support one another,” says Lindbergh.
More About The Writers Circle
Founded by West Orange author Judith Lindbergh, The Writers Circle has been teaching students from ages 8-80 the joy of creative writing in five locations in suburban New Jersey since 2010.
The Writers Circle believes in the uniqueness of each writer’s voice. We welcome the most reluctant child, the teen in need of a welcoming place to explore and express, the adult who feels like a beginner, and the experienced professional looking for a group of insightful peers. TWC’s children’s workshops, for first graders through high school students, emphasize creativity and imagination as the most productive and enjoyable path to better writing. Our adult workshops include beginners classes for newly aspiring writers, multi-genre workshops, and genre-specific classes in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry and more. The Writers Circle celebrated its tenth anniversary in January 2020.
The Writers Circle is more than a place to take a creative writing class. It is a community joined by the love of writing.
Classes held in Summit, Maplewood, South Orange, Montclair, Morristown, and now online. For additional information, visit www.writerscircleworkshops.com.
