Ex-Sussex Commissioner seeks dismissal of 'stolen valor' tax charges (njherald.com) — Sussex County residents are watching closely as former county commissioner William Hayden seeks to have a state tax-evasion indictment dismissed in Superior Court in Newton. Prosecutors say he improperly claimed a veterans’ tax benefit, while the judge has set a July 21 deadline for the state’s response and plans to hear arguments that day.

Morris/Sussex qualifiers for NJSIAA track and field Meet of Champions (njherald.com) — Sussex County track and field standouts, including athletes from High Point, Vernon, Wallkill Valley, and Pope John, have qualified for the NJSIAA Meet of Champions in Pennsauken on June 3. 3. 16th Annual Rock, Ribs, and Ridges Festival set to rock Sussex County Fairgrounds this June (binje.com) — A major three-day Rock, Ribs, and Ridges festival is coming back to the Sussex County Fairgrounds June 26–28, bringing 11 rock and blues acts plus top barbecue pitmasters. Locals can camp on-site, enjoy exclusive late-night shows, and choose from day, weekend, or VIP passes available through the festival’s website.

NJ Natural Gas Customers to See 8.9% Drop in Winter Heating Bills Starting in October (lakewoodalerts.com) — Natural gas customers in Sussex County are set to see winter heating bills drop by about 8.9% starting October 1, saving a typical household roughly $158. However, New Jersey Natural Gas is also seeking a later 12.7% delivery rate increase that could erase much of the benefit, depending on regulators’ review timeline.
