Locals worry the project, enabled by recent zoning changes, could strain water and power resources, while officials highlight potential tax revenue and statewide debates over similar data centers.

2. Woman arrested on forgery, fraud charges in Franklin Borough (newportdispatch.com) — A Franklin Borough woman has been charged with multiple third-degree theft and forgery offenses after police say checks were taken from a local resident’s home and cashed over several months. With help from the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office, investigators traced more than $11,000 in alleged unauthorized withdrawals. The defendant was released pending a future appearance in Sussex County Superior Court.

3. Sussex County seniors eligible for free produce benefits through farmers market program (wrnjradio.com) — Eligible Sussex County seniors can get a one-time $40 electronic benefit to buy fresh local produce at participating New Jersey farm stands, with distribution running June 1 through September 30 in Newton. Residents 60 and older must meet income limits, show proof of age, residency, and income, and use the benefit by November 30, 2026. Homebound seniors can apply through a proxy and may call county Senior Services for help.

4. Sussex County announces student pin design contest honoring military veterans (wrnjradio.com) — Middle schoolers in and around Sussex County can help honor local veterans by designing the official 2026 commemorative pin for the county’s Military Veterans Salute. Entries, which must say “Sussex County” and “2026,” are due June 19 to the Division of Senior Services in Newton, with a $200 prize and recognition at November’s veterans parade at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.

5. Man sentenced to prison in Sussex County residential burglary case (wrnjradio.com) — A Queens man has been sentenced in Sussex County Superior Court to four years in state prison for a February 2025 residential burglary in Montague Township. He received credit for time served in Sussex County Jail and must pay more than $5,600 in restitution. The case was investigated by New Jersey State Police and prosecuted locally.
