April is Fair Housing Month!

Fair Housing Council Celebrates 56 Years of the Fair Housing Act

APRIL IS FAIR HOUSING MONTH!

JOIN US IN CELEBRATING 56 YEARS OF THE FAIR HOUSING ACT!

The Fair Housing Council is a non-profit civil-rights organization located in Bergen County, NJ and is focused on preventing and eliminating housing discrimination in the State of New Jersey.

Join us as we celebrate the 56th Anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act. The Federal Fair Housing Act was passed on April 11, 1968 and made equal opportunity in housing the law of the land. During the month of April, the Fair Housing Council will take part in several education and outreach events to celebrate Fair Housing Month.

The Fair Housing Council will present on the topic of Fair Housing and housing discrimination to the Bergen County Division of Senior Services/ADRC on the morning of April 3rd.

The Council will participate in a Fair Housing Month kick-off event hosted by HUD on April 11th , as well as HUD’s “Fair Housing: Equal Opportunity in Every Community Webinar” on April 16th.

The Council is hosting a Fair Housing Youth Poster Day at the Richard Rodda Center in Teaneck on April 16th from 3-7pm. Join us to learn more about housing discrimination and for a poster drawing activity on the theme “What does fair housing mean to you?” Fair Housing arts and crafts will be geared to 2nd through 4th graders but adults, families, and children of all ages are encouraged to attend and participate.

Staff from the Fair Housing Council will present to first-time homebuyers on April 20th as part of the County of Bergen’s “Spring Into Homeownership!” series of workshops. The county is hosting four workshops to promote home-ownership through the Bergen County American Dream Program. Workshops will be held every Saturday in April from 10:30am to 12:00 pm via Zoom, registration and more information can be found online at https://bit.ly/430Y0wq.

In addition, the Fair Housing Council will be holding a Fair Housing workshop for the Bergen County Women Realtors group on April 25th.
