Attempted Murder Charge For Man In Shooting Near Garfield Wawa

A man was shot near Jewell Street in Garfield, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said.

GARFIELD, NJ — An Elmwood Park man has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of another man on Sunday in a parking lot on Jewell Street.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday that they had arrested Joshua Casiano, 29, of Elmwood Park. He has been charged with first-degree attempted murder and several other offenses.

On Sunday, June 18, 2023, at approximately 11:45 p.m., officers from the Garfield Police Department responded to the area of Jewell Street and Outwater Lane on a report of shots fired, police said.

First responders discovered a 26-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

"An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Garfield Police Department revealed that Joshua Casiano shot the victim and fled the scene," prosecutors said.

Detectives found and arrested him Wednesday, prosecutors said. "During the arrest, a suspected controlled dangerous substance was recovered from his person," prosecutors said.

Casiano was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, third-degree endangering an injured victim, and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, prosecutors said.

Casiano was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
