Bergen Jail Inmates Can Receive Vivitrol Injections Now: Sheriff
Vivitrol is designed to block the effects and cravings of opioids and alcohol for up to a month.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Authorities are offering help to inmates at the Bergen County Jail who are struggling with heroin and opioid addiction.
County Sheriff Michael Saudino announced Thursday that authorities started offering eligible inmates Vivitrol this week.
Vivitrol is an injectable medicine used to block the effects and cravings for both opioids and alcohol for up to one month, Saudino said.

Two inmates have already received Vivitrol injections. Participants are often prescribed the medication for up to one year.
The Vivitrol is being offered as a partnership with two organizations: Transition Professionals and Comprehensive Behavioral Healthcare Inc.

“This is just another tool that we can offer with our partners to break the deadly cycle of addiction in our communities," Saudino said.
