Crossroads ordinance would mean a huge parking garage and 3 large buildings with over 300 luxury apartment units and only 48 affordable units: One building would fill OUR municipal parking lot on American Legion Drive, across from Stop and Shop. One building would be in the southern parking lot of Stop and Shop. One apartment building and the parking garage would be in OUR municipal parking lot on Garrison and Beverly Roads. The beloved Farmers Market would be allocated (maybe) a tiny space along Garrison Avenue. The Crossroads plan would mean even more traffic, pollution, loss of parking south of Cedar Lane, and an extremely small farmers market with no real outdoor parking space for the farmers. We want self contained affordable housing (like the veterans apartments on American Legion Drive and the senior apartments on Teaneck Road), Affordable Dwelling Units, and restoration of rent control - not luxury housing masquerading as affordable housing.
.
Beward - another part of the Crossroads plan would be to pipe floodwaters from north of Cedar Lane, under Cedar Lane, under American Legion Drive, and then into the swale\drain of the CSX rail line! This has the potential of flooding and destabilizing the tracks and trains and causing a derailment. Many of the trains carry extremely hazardous materials. A reminder that a train carrying Bakken crude oil derailed and exploded like a bomb in 2013 in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec, killing 47 children and adults and destroying the downtown. This can happen here. In addition towns like Bogota which are South of Teaneck on the CSX rail line would get even more flooding.
Please speak out against the Crossroads ordinance at the Teaneck Town Council meeting, Monday, March 16 at 7 pm. Municipal Building. 818 Teaneck Road. Bring friends and neighbors.
