The play is a historical drama about the first Black US congressman of the 20th century, Oscar DePriest, determined to see his wife, Jessie, invited to the White House for First Lady Lou Hoover's social tea party in 1929. It is a dramatization of a story little known and rarely told, yet one that drew significant national attention at the time, presenting an important debate about the most effective political strategy for social change. This powerful staged reading will take place at the Leonia Municipal Center. It is free and open to the public. There will be a reception following the reading. Mark your calendars and join us!
