“Jews and the U.S. Labor Movement”

Keith Danish will speak about “Jews and the U.S. Labor Movement” to the History Club at the Paramus (NJ) Public Library (https://paramuslibrary.org/ ) on Monday, Sept. 14, at 1 pm. Coming right after Labor Day and during the Jewish High Holy Days, the talk will focus on Jewish idealism and tradition as an inspiration for labor and social justice movements, and "Social Unionism"; Jewish institutions and newspapers that supported the labor movement; Socialism and its influence on unionism; and how an immigrant group progressed from cutting and sewing to running garment companies, becoming designer "brand names," and leading many types of labor unions.

A retired attorney and Leonia resident who specialized in intellectual property law, Danish serves on the Executive Board of the New York Labor History Association and is the Editor of the association's newsletter, “Work History News," as well as its book review editor. Danish has lectured widely on topics ranging from law and the U.S. Supreme Court to baseball’s business and labor history, and American history.He has an immediate family connection to the early days of the Int'l Ladies Garment Workers Union.
