Englewood Officers Assaulted in Two Scuffles Saturday, Police Say

Two men assaulted Englewood Police officers in a pair of unrelated incidents just hours apart on Saturday, according to city police. 

Officers were dispatched to the corner of Lafayette Place and Third Street at approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday, when witnesses directed them to Englewood resident Douglas Wade-Perry, 18. Witnesses told police that Wade-Perry was acting violently in the street, according to cops. 

“The officers made contact with Perry, who turned his aggression towards them, punching Officer Charles Silva in the face and spitting and fighting with his back-up officers,” said Detective Capt. Tim Torell. “Unfortunately, this is kind of routine for cops. Its part of the job.” 

Wade-Perry was subdued by police, arrested and ultimately charged with disorderly conduct and aggravated assault on a police officer. He was transported to the hospital for observation because of possible intoxication, police said, and was later released and posted bail from the Englewood Police Station. 

The officers did not sustain serious injuries, according to police.

In the second incident, Josue Hernandez, 22, of Fairview, was arrested after striking Englewood Police Officer Reynaldo Rose at around 2 p.m. at the Englewood Hospital. 

“Hernandez had been taken to the hospital earlier by another Bergen County police agency for an unrelated issue. As Hernandez was being released by hospital staff, he allegedly created a disturbance there, causing the E.R. staff to call us,” said Torell. 

Hernandez was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and sent to the Bergen County Jail. He was released on bail Sunday. 

Officer Rose did not sustain any serious injuries, cops said Monday.
