The NYC-based ensemble Karavika, with Trina Basu (violin), Amali Premawardhana (cello), Perry Wortman (bass) and Avi Shah (tabla), draws from the rich classical and folk traditions of India, Europe and America to create a powerfully sincere and unique chamber music sound. The group has appeared at venues such as Caffe Vivaldi, Brooklyn’s House of Yes, The Tank, the Brooklyn Lyceum, and Drom and was recently featured at the first annual Carnatic Music Festival at Cornelia Street Café and at the 2011 NYC Winter Jazz Festival. As well, Karavika regularly performs for organizations that support important social, health and educational causes. When not in concert or recording sessions, the group seeks to introduce children to its music, presenting interactive workshops and demonstrations at such venues as the Brooklyn Children's Museum. Karavika’s debut album “Sunrise” will be released March 15, 2012; the Puffin audience will be the first to celebrate with them at this New Jersey CD release concert!!
