GARY GOWEN, PHOTOGRAPHER

Gary Gowen was born in Billings, MT. He came to New York City after college to embark on a career in opera, but the magnificent vistas of Big Sky Country were indelibly stamped on his memory. They were the inspiration for his love of photography.

An avid landscape photographer since early childhood, he continued to pursue this interest along with his music. In his travels across the country and abroad for musical performances, his camera was a constant companion. His camera of choice is his Mamiya 7II, a Medium Format film camera that is able to capture the smallest details and the most intense color saturation. He has exhibited his works in shows locally and in Philadelphia.

Gary and his wife Norma have been residents of Teaneck since 1993. He continues to find inspiration in the natural beauty of New Jersey and New York.

Itoko Kobayashi was born in the northern part of Japan, in the same region that has been experienced the recent Tsunami and earthquake. Her grandfather taught her the ancient art of origami, and in particular, the technique which is used for this exhibition, known as block/triangle origami.

The work shown is both original and traditional design. Itoko folds rectangular origami paper into triangle pieces and combines the components into one work.  Some large works require more than 300 to 700 pieces.

Itoko has applied this origami style into the framed works and uses another traditional Japanese technique, chigirie, onto the background of framed works.

Itoko has studied in both Japanese and American universities.

She married with an American and has one child and lives in New Milford, NJ.
