Evidence Of Child Exploitation Found In Teaneck, Man Arrested: Prosecutor

William R. Kooney, 42, used the internet to view and attempted to distribute the image, authorities said.

TEANECK, N.J. — Evidence was found at township location that revealed William R. Kooney used viewed and attempted to distribute an image of child sexual exploitation, said Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.

Kooney, 42, of Bogota, was arrested Friday after authorities searched a Farrant Terrace location and his Bogota home, the result of an investigation by the prosecutor's office Cyber Crimes Unit, Grewal said in a news release.

Members of the unit executed a search warrant at two locations Kooney was known to utilize, including the Teaneck location, Grewal said.

Evidence seized from both locations revealed that Kooney utilized the Internet to view, possess, and attempt to distribute an image of child sexual exploitation, the prosecutor said.

Kooney was charged with attempted endangering the welfare of a child by attempted to distribute an image of child sexual exploitation material, and endangering the welfare of a child by possessing an image of child sexual exploitation, Grewal said.

Superior Court Judge Susan J. Steele set Kooney's bail at $3 million. If released on bail, Kooney may not access the Internet. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail pending his first appearance in Bergen County Central Municipal Court Oct. 19, the prosecutor said.
