A report by the township outlines the state of health in Teaneck last year.

TEANECK, N.J. — Heart diseases were the leading cause of death among township residents last year, a new report shows.
The Board of Health releases a report that provides an overview of township residents' health, causes of death, food inspections and prevalence of lead and radon in town.
Cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary diseases were the leading causes of death in town, according to the report; 97 people died of cardiopulmonary diseases and 68 of cardiovascular diseases. Those two causes of death accounted for nearly two-thirds, 61 percent, of the 270 deaths in town.

Cancer caused the next highest number of people to die, 29.
Nearly 430 children were born in Teaneck parents in 2016.

Ninety-six percent of food establishments were in compliance with regulations last year. The ones that were not corrected the violations and were in compliance by year's end, according to the report.
