Law Enforcement Torch Run Passes Through Teaneck
Township police participated in the charity run.
Law enforcement officers running in support of the New Jersey Special Olympics made their way along Cedar Lane Friday afternoon.
The 26-leg journey will bring the NJ Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” more than 900 miles through the state to The College of New Jersey in Ewing for the opening of the Special Olympics Summer Games.
More than 3,000 law enforcement officers around the state are taking part in the run to raise money and awareness for the cause.

“The running of the torch is more than a symbolic display of the commitment of members of Law Enforcement to the athletes of Special Olympics,” Robert Belfiore, a former deputy chief of the Port Authority Police and director of the New Jersey Torch Run, said in a press release. “It is a powerful grassroots message that we bring from community to community to shine a light on the great achievements of the more than 21,000 athletes that participate in Special Olympics New Jersey.”
Organizers said runners came from agencies across the state, including the Teaneck Police Department.

Friday's event was not the first time Teaneck's police officers have volunteered in support of Special Olympics. Last year, that enabled athletes and their families to participate in the games for free.
