Man Assaulted Child, Causing Serious Injuries: Bergen Prosecutor

A Brooklyn man is in custody in Bergen County after assaulting a child and causing "serious bodily injury" to them, Prosecutor Musella said.

TEANECK, NJ — A Brooklyn man is in custody in Bergen County after assaulting a child and causing "serious bodily injury" to them, Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

Javal James, 44, faces a second-degree charge of endangering the welfare of a child and a third-degree charge of aggravated assault, Musella said. The state Child Protection and Permanency office contacted the prosecutor's Special Victims Unit on Thursday, May 5 about a child being assaulted, Musella said.

"An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Teaneck Police Department revealed that Javal James assaulted the child, causing serious bodily injury and endangered the child’s welfare" in Teaneck, Musella said.

Officers arrested James in Teaneck on Friday.

James is being held at the Bergen County Jail.
