Man Charged With Arson For Setting Car On Fire In Overpeck Park: Prosecutor

A man who intentionally set fire to his car in Overpeck Park in August was charged with arson after he lied to authorities, said Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.

Leonia police Sgt. David Stein was on patrol when he found a 2010 Nissan Murano on fire in a wooded area in the borough, Grewal said.

The Nissan was registered to Hector Arredondo, 35, of Weehawken, who gave false information to detectives investigating the fire, the prosecutor said.

Authorities determined that Arredondo intentionally set the fire, Grewal said.

Arredondo was charged with arson was lodged in the Bergen County Jail; his bail was set at $35,000 with no 10 percent option, authorities said. His first court appearance is set for the Bergen County Central Municipal Court.
